QWhy do I need to install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 to use TeamSpec?
AThe short answer is: without Visual Studio 2005 SP1 TeamSpec can kill your Word process. Since Word uses a single process to manage all the documents you might have open, this would cause you to have to recover your documents after having Word disappear. We recognized how serious of a problem this was and were forced to require users to install the Team Explorer SP1 bits (which are actually part of the Visual Studio 2005 SP1 bits) before being able to use TeamSpec.
The technical reason for this problem is that since the VSTO Word add-in model provides each addin with it’s own AppDomain (which is a very nice and secure thing), when loading more than one TeamSpec document, each TeamSpec document was trying to access the TFS Client object model. This was not possible given a bug in the TFS 2005 Client bits. The good news is that the fix for this bug is inside Team Explorer SP1.
